Mountsfield Park is a much-loved park which sits between Catford and Hither Green, and has so much to offer the local community. In the middle of the park is the icon and much loved bandstand, and as you can see, it is in desperate need of some attention after years of wear and tear.
The truth is that the bandstand needs a careful renovation, and fortunately funding was secured some time ago to give it an upgrade.
The community have now been waiting on the renovations to start taking place, so we need action from the new Council to make this happen.
Lewisham Council need to progress this project. Residents need to know when we can expect the renovations to begin, who will be doing this work and most importantly, when we can expect it to be completed. So we can enjoy it once again as a local community and at festivals.
The bandstand has hosted so many important community events, including the memorial event for Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah and the unveiling of her statue, and of course the weekly parkrun which starts at the bandstand every Saturday morning. Now that the funding has been secured, I ask the Council: what are we waiting for?
