Like many constituents, I was distressed to hear about Catford Mews’s closure. Since it opened in 2019, it has been a fantastic hub for the community to enjoy.
Spaces such as Catford Mews need to be run sustainably and fairly. Really Local Group, the company which operated Catford Mews, has run rent arrears excess of £650,000. During the Pandemic, the Council provided Catford Mews with a rent free period, as well as additional financial support.
I agree with the Council that it is unfair that Lewisham taxpayers should bear the burden of supporting Really Local Group operating from Catford Mews. I welcome the Council’s search for a new operator for the site, as well as its commitment to supporting staff and independent traders who use the site.
