I am disgusted that the Conservative Party have imposed their second Prime Minister on us since the last General Election. Boris Johnson saw public standards collapse under his premiership and Liz Truss wrecked the economy in her historically short term in office. I dread to think what Rishi Sunak will do during his tenure.

Rather than implement sensible economic policies such as imposing a windfall tax on energy producers, I fear we will see him inflict austerity 2.0 measures on the public. I am deeply concerned about the impact this will have on our already struggling public services.

We saw that Rishi Sunak has scant regard for working people. His first act as Prime Minister was to address the Conservative Parliamentary Party before addressing the nation. This shows he is more interested in the political welfare of Tory MPs than he is in outlining to the nation his plan to tackle the cost-of-living crisis which is ruining the lives of so many people across our constituency.

Please be assured I will do all I can in Parliament to hold Rishi Sunak and his chaotic party to account. During yesterday’s PMQs I stressed that we in Lewisham East are tired of high prices, high rents, high mortgages, high inflation, high energy costs and that the country needs a General Election. You can view my question here.

Lewisham and the country as a whole deserve better from its government.
