We were fortunate to have three excellent leadership candidates. In the circumstances, the campaign felt long at times, but all the candidates ran positive, constructive campaigns. However, on Saturday Labour’s new leader Keir Starmer won an overwhelming majority among MPs, members, affiliates and trade unionists. He stated it is an ‘honour and a privilege’ to be the Labour leader. Angela Rayner is now the Deputy Leader and they are indeed the best team.
Keir has become our leader at a time of national crisis. Coronavirus is a national emergency and he has made it clear that our party will be constructive, supportive of the Government where it is right to do so but will press on with the difficult questions as well. Keir has already reached out to Jewish Community leaders and to Local Government leaders.
