Janet Daby MP

On 12 December 2019 I was honoured to be re-elected as your Member of Parliament for Lewisham East.

I’ve lived in Lewisham East for over 22 years. This is my home, where I have worked, where my children go to school and where my friends and family live. I have been a Labour Local Councillor in Lewisham East since 2010, and in 2012 I was promoted to the Mayor’s Cabinet for community safety. I was appointed Lewisham’s Deputy Mayor immediately before being elected.

I know the issues that matter to people here, because they matter to me too.

I’m the Founding Director of The Whitefoot and Downham Community Food Plus Project, an organisation which combats food poverty and isolation, helps over 50 local people each week, and which received a national award in recognition for its work.

I’ve battled against the closure of Lewisham A&E and worked with the Council and the community to take legal action against the Liberal Democrats and Conservative Coalition Government.

I have a record of successful local campaigning, expanding local bus routes and working with parents to save nursery services. As well as setting local Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy and working with Community Safety Partners to prevent and reduce crime.

I am proud of our area. From Blackheath to Downham, Lewisham East is home to many people, families, communities and cultures, living side-by-side as one. Our diversity is our strength.

But I have seen how Brexit is changing our community; dividing people into ‘them and us’ and putting local jobs and businesses at risk. As MP I will continue to hold the Government to account on Brexit and protect the Lewisham East we all cherish.

As a Local Councillor in Whitefoot, I’ve seen more and more young people priced out of our borough. Eight successive years of Tory cuts have seen rents skyrocket and house prices soar. I will work with the council and city hall to lobby for more funding from central government to help our new Mayor build the council and affordable housing that is desperately needed.

I am proud to be your voice in parliament and am working to support our fantastic community.
