Janet Daby talking to a local resident
Janet Daby talking to a local resident

My first involvement in politics came in 2010 when I was elected as a Councillor for Whitefoot ward in Lewisham East. In 2012, I was promoted to the Cabinet as the lead for community safety and served as Deputy Mayor of Lewisham in 2018.

As an experienced campaigner, I fought against the closure of Lewisham A&E and worked with Lewisham Council to take legal action against the Liberal Democrat-Conservative Coalition Government. I worked with the Council and housing developers to bring forward plans to build new homes with the support of local residents on the Excalibur Estate. I have campaigned to protect local nursery services, to create a strategy to prevent violence against women and girls, and to work with community safety partners to prevent and reduce crime.

I am a passionate champion of our children and young people. From September 2023 I have served as the Shadow Spokesperson for Youth Justice where I have worked to restore trust and to build a more effective justice system for children and young people.

Protecting our environment, tackling climate change and poor air quality, reducing poverty and addressing the impacts of the cost-of-living crisis are just some of my priorities in Parliament. Our country has so much untapped potential, and I believe passionately in building a better Britain which is fairer and greener.

From Lee to Catford to Downham, Lewisham East is home to many people, families, communities, and cultures living side-by-side as one. Our diversity is our strength.

It gives me great pride to work for everyone in Lewisham East. If you need my assistance on urgent casework please click below to find out how you can contact me.
