It is an honour to serve as the Member of Parliament for Lewisham East.
I’ve lived in Lewisham East for over 25 years. This is my home – where I have worked, where my children go to school, where my family and friends live. I know the issues that matter to people in Lewisham East because they matter to me, too.
My first involvement in politics came in 2010 when I was elected as a Councillor for Whitefoot ward in Lewisham East. In 2012, I was promoted to the Cabinet as the lead for community safety and served as Deputy Mayor of Lewisham in 2018.
As an experienced campaigner, I fought against the closure of Lewisham A&E and worked with Lewisham Council to take legal action against the Liberal Democrat-Conservative Coalition Government. I worked with the Council and housing developers to bring forward plans to build new homes with the support of local residents on the Excalibur Estate. I have campaigned to protect local nursery services, to create a strategy to prevent violence against women and girls, and to work with community safety partners to prevent and reduce crime.
I am a passionate champion of our children and young people. In Parliament, I am working to reduce poverty which is too often a reality for our children and for struggling families. Protecting our environment and improving air quality is also about safeguarding children to keep them safe from harm, now and in the future. I also tackle inequalities wherever they appear.
I’m proud of Lewisham East. From Blackheath to Catford and Downham, Lewisham East is home to many people, families, communities, and cultures living side-by-side as one. Our diversity is our strength.
It gives me great pride to work for everyone in Lewisham East and to be your voice in Parliament. If you need my assistance with an issue, please click below to find out how you can contact me.
